Scotts Miracle Grow
When Scotts Miracle Gro calls and asks if you can capture a national stills campaign while a broadcast spot is being filmed, the answer is usually pretty simple: LFG!
Over two days in Los Angeles, we embedded alongside the commercial production, chasing moments between takes, building scenes around the larger campaign, and creating a stills library that could live far beyond the broadcast buy. Backyards, families, product moments, lifestyle details, and plenty of sunshine. The kind of work that looks effortless, but only happens when everyone is moving fast and firing on all cylinders.
The funny part is that most of these images feel intimate and quiet. You'd never guess there were 45 people standing just outside the frame, a commercial being filmed, clients watching monitors, and an entire production machine humming away in the background.
The answer is a little Giants magic, a lot of experience, and knowing how to get talent to relax and be themselves despite the controlled chaos surrounding them. That instinct has been honed over years of working in high pressure advertising environments, learning when to direct, when to observe, and how to find authentic moments in the middle of a massive production. It's one of the differences between taking pictures and being an advertising photographer.
